Hiking 101

Chapter 1, Page 1:

If you're planning on parking your vehicle in the lot at the base of the trail you're hiking, remove all valuables (and anything that might appear to be of value, such as a gym bag or briefcase). And, before you lock your car, open your glove compartment and center console to show there's nothing in there worth smashing your windows for.

I always thought this was common knowledge. But, as I've learned over the years, common knowledge is about as common these days as common sense.

WMUR: Trail Of Lottery Tickets Leads Police To Burglary Suspect

GORHAM, N.H. -- A trail of lottery tickets helped lead Gorham police to a Massachusetts man accused of breaking into cars, a Dunkin' Donuts and a Gorham convenience store.

Investigators said the crime spree started last week. Hikers at a local Appalachian Mountain Club parking lot reported a string of car break-ins. The burglar stole more than $1,000 in belongings, including a laptop computer, a purse and a DVD player.

And, speaking of burglarious Massholes...

OSSIPEE, N.H. -- Three men were arrested following a three-hour search and charged in connection with a pharmacy robbery over the weekend.

In court Monday, family members who drove two hours from Lynn, Mass., said they were hoping for low bail, telling News 9 that the men have children and are needed at home.

Which explains why they were caught breaking into a drug store some 85 miles away. It was "for the children".
