At the Risk Of Repeating Myself...
...it all depends on one's definition of accidental.
My two cents, posted in the WMUR.com comments:
EAST KINGSTON, N.H. -- An East Kingston man is in critical condition after he apparently shot himself accidentally, police said.
Police said they believe Jeffrey Kuzarian, 26, shot himself with a large-caliber weapon at about 1:20 a.m. Friday at a home on Rogers Lane. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, but police said they believe it may have been accidental.
Kuzarian was flown by helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with life-threatening injuries.
Police said there were about 10 adults in their 20s at the time of the shooting. Investigators are continuing to interview people who were there.
My two cents, posted in the WMUR.com comments:
Sorry, but if you injure yourself with a firearm, as a direct result of having handled said firearm in violation of the four basic rules of firearms safety at 1:20 in the morning in a room full of people, it's not an "accident". It might not have been "intentional", but the word we need to use here is "negligent". Drastically negligent. I'm not passing judgment on the person involved (and I hope he fully recovers from his injuries), that's just the proper use of the English language.
