Here We Go Again

DEAD HORSE BEATING ALERT

OK, this wasn't going to be such a busy blogging day, but it would be hard to let this MGCSS go until tomorrow.

Four-year-old wounded; mother faces charges

(New Bedford, MASS - AP) — Police in New Bedford plan to file charges against the mother of a four-year-old boy who was shot in the face over the weekend.

The shooting apparently was accidental, and may have occurred when the child picked up a 25-caliber handgun in his home on Clark Street.

Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit! Whoever penned this article apparently was a brain donor in a previous life. This shooting was NOT "accidental". It was the direct result of NEGLIGENT, CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR! To label this as an accident absolves those involved of any personal responsibility, and places the blame on an inanimate object, which when handled and stored properly is no more dangerous in the home of a small child than a common kitchen knife.

The youngster - whose name has not been released - was taken to a local hospital after the Saturday night shooting and later transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. The Standard Times of New Bedford reports that he was in critical condition as of last night.

The child's mother faces several charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and child endangerment.

You mean she didn't have a valid Class "A" or Class "B" License to Carry a Firearm? I'm stunned!

And she violated state laws concerning the safe storage of firearms in one's home? I'm doubled over in astonishment!

And the handgun in question is NOT on the Attorney General's official roster of firearms approved for sale in Massachusetts? Well, color me seven shades of surprised.

And now a four-year-old child is in the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot would to the face, despite all the Commonwealth's CSGC laws supposedly enacted to prevent this kind of tragedy from taking place? Simply shocking!

Now, one might be led to believe that there are some people in the world with no respect for the law. Or that no amount of legislation in the world will deter someone bent on violating said laws from doing so. Clearly, that's not the case. We just need a few more gun control laws, THEN the children of Massachusetts will truly be safe. [/horseshit]

Police say there are still a number of unanswered questions about the incident.

Yeah, like which gun shop in Vermont sold her the gun.[/sarcasm]
