Like Talking To a Brick Wall...

...minus the intellectual feedback.

So, the other day, I ventured warily into the boston.com message boards, specifically, this thread.

Boston's top law enforcement officials emerged from an emergency crime summit vowing to take tougher measures to stem a rise in homicides, shootings, and other violent crime. Their ideas range from warrant sweeps to banning T-shirts. What do you think of the measures they're proposing?

The ensuing "discussison" went pretty much as one would expect, with some of the "highlights" coming from Nasochkas...

Seeing as to neither u or I were alive when the constitution was written, neither one of us knows exaclty what the founding fathers were thinking. However, we can infer from the circumstances at the time, that the militia refered to defending outselves from an outside power such as the British (think Minuteman Militia). Nor did the colonies even have a police force to speak of. They had town militia's for protection...which are a lot more like the police of today than individuals carrying guns for personal protection.

I am scared of trigger happy redneck hicks having guns because they think it is their right whether they have them legally or not. Criminals will get guns either way.

...and daisy1.

Please, when do you ever read about someone breaking into a home at night and killing the occupent? The only time I've read about evening break ins and murders is when the home owner tried to intervene in a theft or a rape. The former being extremely rare and the latter being a situation where a gun won't help. I've yet to read about a break in rape where the intended victim shot their perp.

Needless to say, daisy1 is not a regular reader of mine. And, I'm assuming I won't have to tell any of you what my screenname is over there.
