NPR Channels Jim Croce

"If I could keep time in a bottle..."

aka: What's wrong with this picture?

That's the question being asked over at MassRight concerning this NPR write-up on our Senior Senator's Gasbag's speech last month to the National Press Club.

Here's a little visual clue.

The first picture is the one that appears on the NPR website accompanying the above-referenced story. The second picture is from the actual event being reported on by NPR.

Can you say "polishing the turd"? 50 Bonus Points to anyone who can document the year that first picture was taken. I'm going mid-80's, based on the shirt collar and tie.

Also, from the NPR bit comes this paragraph which begs the question, is there ANY policy or subject matter on which Senator Kennedy's position isn't based on knowledge gained solely through repeated, long-term use of his Blockbuster membership card?

In a speech to the National Press Club, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) criticized the Bush administration on education, the war in Iraq, and the president's policies on science. "We should stop the non-scientific... nonsense emanating from the right wing and start demanding immediate action to reduce global warming and prevent the catastrophic climate change that may be on our horizon now," Kennedy said in his speech.

Apparently, though, national intelligence suggesting Al Qaeda "may be on our horizon now" is to be dismissed as "nonsense", lies, and right-wing fear mongering. I mean, how is information like THAT going to be of any assistance in returning the party of Kerry/Kennedy/Streisand to its rightful throne?

UPDATE: After poking around a bit, I'm revising my guess to "circa 1990". He's grayed somewhat in that photo compared to pics from the '84 campaign season. And I seem to remember the photos from 1992 around the time of his wedding showing the infamous Teddy Kennedy jowls well on their way.
