Another One Bites the Dust

Well, this didn't take long.

State Representative Marie St. Fleur today pulled out as a candidate for lieutenant governor after the Boston Globe reported that she has delinquent tax debts in three of the last four years and owes $40,000 in student loans, a senior Democrat said today.

Marie, we hardly knew you.

"Quote of the Day" comes from Little Miss Holier-Than-Thou herself, from the official "Tom Reilly for Laughing Boy Governor" website:

"I have always felt an obligation to give something back to this state that has given me so much."

"Just so long as that something isn't in the form of actual money."

Press release from Representative St. Fleur's office blaming her downfall on a well-coordinated, racist, right-wing conspiracy in 10...9...8...

UPDATE: A last-minute entry from Tom Reilly for "Quote of the Day" honors is making this a closely contested race:

"Every citizen who enjoys all that this state has to offer is obligated to pay taxes,” Reilly said in an April 14, 2005, statement. "My office will continue to investigate and prosecute those who choose to avoid the law and their responsibilities to pay taxes."
