Self-Defense For Liberals (Canadian Edition)

When cower and pray fails, just scream your head off.

Last month, a 35-year-old woman was grabbed by her neck after she left a 7-11 store. Her attacker, armed with a knife, dragged her to a footpath and sexually assaulted her.

On April 8, a 19-year-old woman was grabbed while walking to a bus stop early in the morning. The man dragged her behind a condominium complex and sexually assaulted her.

What's a girl to do?

Aside from remaining aware of surroundings, [Calgary Detective Ren] Lafreniere's best advice to anyone who is attacked by the man is: "Scream your head off."

That's the "best advice" you've got, Detective?

I beg to differ. As would this would-be victim, I'd imagine.

Earlier, on March 18, a woman walking home from work was grabbed from behind, but managed to scratch and hit the suspect and escape.

Seems that "scratching and hitting" (also known as DEFENDING YOURSELF) worked out fairly well for her. Unfortunately, the rapist was also able to escape, thereby free to rape again and again.

And, I'll bet the women he attacked since then screamed plenty.

Here's the story of another woman who decided to do something more than just "scream her head off", when attacked last year in Boston by two would-be rapists undocumented sex partners.

The 18-year-old [Boston College] student told police Wednesday that two men "grabbed her, pinned her down on the ground, banged her head on the wrought-iron railing and committed indecent assault and battery," said state police Sgt. John Gentile, who is leading the investigation into the Feb. 4 incident.

Mandatory railing cushions!

And the money quote:

Had the girl not kicked one man in the face and escaped, she probably would have been raped, Gentile said.

Well, shame on her for depriving these nice young men of their inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness. Right, Mumbles?
