The PlaybookTM

Go. Read. Now.

Then come back here and explain to me how that empty-suited lapdog of the radical left plans on "healing our souls" and uniting the country under a big umbrella of happiness.

UPDATE: Obligatory Follow-Up Rhetorical Question

If there was this much information out there - readily available to anyone with an internet connections and an afternoon's worth of free time - tying John McCain to multiple radical Christian organizations seeking to convert our children into little fundamentalist warriors, or to groups of people espousing a racially-divisive ideology, what are the odds we'd be experiencing the same willful blackout of information that we're seeing today from the mainstream media?

And, how long ago (measured in years) would McCain's candidacy have been sunk?

As If I Needed Further Proof...

...that I have the most thoughtful children in the world.

My daughters decided that what I needed most of all on my birthday this year was my very own Webkinz.

(Those of you without kids between the ages of 3 and 7 can pretty much stop reading now, if you'd like. You likely haven't got the slightest idea what I'm talking about.)

So, anyway, I did what any responsible Webkinz owner would (or, at least, should) do. I hooked him up with some camo pants and a heater.

Are you talking to me?

Apparently, open carry is perfectly legal in Webkinz World. Who knew?

A Quick Favor to Ask

I have a favor to ask of any Obamapologist who might be reading this blog, concerning this current economic crisis and the meltdown of "Big Mortgage" that precipitated it.

If, as Obama stated unequivocally in last week's debate, this "crisis" is overwhelmingly the fault of the Bush Administration (and presumably his Republican allies in Congress, as well), can someone please send me some links to all the video clips and news articles showing President Bush or any Republican in Congress obstructing the efforts of Democrats to regulate and reel in these irresponsible, corrupt lenders?

By my calculations, assuming Obama are being truthful with the American people (hey, work with me here, people), there should be, at least, ten buttloads of such evidentiary items out there.

Because, there's certainly one buttload of video footage and news articles floating around now, that speak to the contrary, showing Republicans making repeated efforts to reform the way these lenders do business, only to be attacked by the Democrats who had been handsomely paid off by those folks driving Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into the ground.

OK, I'll make a deal with you.

Send me ONE such link.

And, sorry, but a canned speech by Barney Frank, given at a press conference in front of adoring, fawn-eyed media news crews doesn't count.

"De-Porked" Bailout Agreement Reached?

We shall see.

UPDATE: File that one under wishful thinking. Things don't look good, from what I've read so far. More later, I'm sure.

Bruce's Rule of Thumb #20

Whenever you see this many happy, self-congratulatory Democrats assembled in one place, striking jovial poses in front of cameras in the halls of Congress, it's a fairly reliable indication that something bad has just happened.

Does that picture remind you of anything?

Like this picture, maybe.

Worlds Beyond Despicable

Nancy Pelosi hangs the "UNPATRIOTIC" label around the necks of House Republicans for failing to attend bailout negotiating meeting.

A meeting they WERE NOT INVITED TO.

Despicable doesn't even begin to describe this.

If this is the "new politics" we were promised by Pelosi and her "most ethical Congree ever", I'll pass thanks.

Where's Barack "The Great Uniter" Obama on this one? If he were one-tenth of one percent the "reach across the aisle" kind of reformer he claims to be, he'd be calling out Pelosi for uttering such a reprehensible statement as this.

Yeah, I know.

Gold bars, my ass, kids' college fund...some assembly required.

Also, from the Indisputable Fact File:

Anyone who thinks the media wouldn't be covering this story any differently had it been a Republican saying something like that needs to get his head examined.

Vee Vill Make You See zee Light

If the thought of a candidate for president aligning himself with publicly-funded law enforcement officials to form ideologically one-sided "truth squads" doesn't scare the ever-loving shit out of you, there's something irreparably wrong with you.

Of course, this ties in nicely with Obama's efforts to turn the Chicago public school system into leftist truth camps.

And, this guy's polling double-digits???

Rhetorical Question of the Day

NewsBusters: Where's the media?

Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.

Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Two words: Stage. Prop.

Barack Obama, the Carrot Top of American presidential politics.

UPDATE: Some are saying wait and verify.

The audio is from back in March, so I'm willing to temporarily withdraw the Carrot Top comment, apply the 48-hour rule, and see how this one pans out. Besides, as Magus points out in the comments, it is rather insulting to Carrot Top to make such a comparison between the two.

UPDATE II: Apparently, Sgt. Jopek's Mom is OK with it now.

Carrot Top still sucks, though.

Barney Frank Is Right

John McCain hasn't been involved.

Of course, that depends heavily on one's definition of "involved"

Obligatory Follow-Up Rhetorical Question

Why hasn’t the Great Uniter, the Candidate of HopenchangeTM, the Bearer of the Torch of New Politics, the One We’ve Been Waiting For, the self-professed Champion of Bipartisan Problem Solving called for Frank and Dodd to recuse themselves forthwith from these proceedings?

What?

Why is everybody laughing?

UPDATE: Speaking of Chris Dodd, I wonder if he's starting to regret signing the bottom line on those sweetheart loans he got from his friends at Countrywide.

Nah, probably not. That would require something halfway resembling a functioning moral compass.

Scumbag, recuse thyself.

Kill It, Kill It, Kill It, Kill It

Or, I'll drive down there this morning and kill the damn thing myself.

Hot Air: The Democratic ACORN bailout

Once again, the Democrats want to set up a self-funding mechanism, this time by exploiting a severe financial crisis. Despicable.

McCain needs to tell these people, in no uncertain terms, to go to hell, get his ass down to Mississippi for the debate tonight, tear Obama a new one on national TV, and let these monkeys in Congress know that he'll be glad to get back to work on this matter as soon as everyone involved starts, at least, pretending that they're working on behalf of the American taxpayer.

UPDATE: Ask, and I shall receive.

From the statement just released (scroll down to the update) by the McCain campaign:

The difference between Barack Obama and John McCain was apparent during the White House meeting yesterday where Barack Obama’s priority was political posturing in his opening monologue defending the package as it stands. John McCain listened to all sides so he could help focus the debate on finding a bipartisan resolution that is in the interest of taxpayers and homeowners. The Democratic interests stood together in opposition to an agreement that would accommodate additional taxpayer protections.

Senator McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans. The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the Senator will travel to the debate this afternoon. Following the debate, he will return to Washington to ensure that all voices and interests are represented in the final agreement, especially those of taxpayers and homeowners.

Hey, Barry, you better send one of your staffers out to buy one of these for you. I think sitting down might become a tad uncomfortable for you after tonight.

Raise Your Hand If You Saw This Coming

August 2008:

BOSTON (WBZ) ― There was good news and bad news for drivers at the Massachusetts Turnpike Board meeting Wednesday in Auburn.

The good news is the board decided not to raise the cost of tolls for the next 12 months.

September 2008:

STURBRIDGE - Massachusetts Turnpike Authority officials, declaring "there's no tooth fairy" to rescue the beleaguered agency, debated a menu of steep toll hikes yesterday and appeared resigned about passing a price hike in the near future.

I guess it all depends on one's definition of "twelve".

And, who says the agency needs to be rescued? Dissolve the Turnpike Authority and call it a hack-funded bailout for the taxpayers of the Commonwealth.

Sure, there will be costs. Like, a reduction in pension payouts for over-bloated executives and a loss of jobs for the patronage hire toll collectors, but aren't these bailouts all about making sacrifices for the "common good" in times of crisis?

On the other hand, if that were to happen, companies outside Massachusetts might start to get the impression that the people running the Commonwealth actually do care about making Massachusetts a more business friendly environment. And, that could lead to more job opportunities for the people of Massachusetts.

Of course, it also might result in an influx of intelligent, independent-minded voters who don't believe in being lorded over by an all-powerful, nanny-state government.

So, scratch that idea.

I Guess It All Depends...

...on one's definition of "unfortunately".

A Picture is Worth a (Hundred) Thousand Words

While John McCain was suspending his campaign to return to Washington to work on behalf of the American people to avert a major economic disaster, Barack Obama was doing his part to help "heal our souls".

Fact-Checking the Fact-Checking Fact-Checkers

There's a lot of "fact checking" going back and forth regarding the NRA's recently launched ad campaign against Barack Obama, between the gun rights community and the Obama media machine.

My take is that the NRA, by virtue of Obama's past words and actions, has the truth solidly on their side in this matter, but they chose their verbiage poorly, allowing the Obama camp some wiggle room in their rebuttal attempts.

That aside, it pretty much boils down to this.

Anyone who would have you believe that Barack Obama is anything but entirely hostile toward the Second Amendment rights of American citizens is as believable as a PETA press release titled, "Foie Gras - The New Miracle Meat".

My Bailout Commentary in Three Words or Less

Let. Them. Fail.

I've got a good supply of drinking water and a sufficient stockpile of ammunition on hand to make it through the re-build.

As if this shit wasn't bad enough already...

In the dark of night over the weekend when most people were snoozing, the Treasury dramatically expanded its bailout plan to include buying student loans, car loans, credit card debt and any other "troubled" assets held by banks.

Seriously, though, where does it end? At what point do we, as a nation of free and sovereign people, say...

(pausing to do an ammo recount in my head)

Damn, I gotta, um...run some errands.

Throwing Stone Boomerangs

So, there's an ad that Barack Obama is giving a lot of airtime up here in New Hampshire, in which he goes after McCain for hiring former lobbyists for "Big Oil" to work on his campaign.

Now, the Democrats, by their own admission, have declared the oil industry to be one of the most successful industries in the history of western civilization, having raked in "record profits" (which we all know is the worst thing that can happen in a socialist economy).

Barack Obama, on the other hand, has hired former executives of "Big Mortgage" to work on his campaign. And, we've all seen now how successful that industry's proven itself to be.

McCain surrounds himself with individuals who have a record of achieving positive results for their clients, while Obama chose, instead, to wrap himself up in a big blanket of fail.

Tell me again, whose judgment are we supposed to trust here?

But, Of Course!

Union Leader:

BERLIN – The man held this weekend on charges he stabbed his son and girlfriend multiple times called for an ambulance late Friday afternoon and described the incident as an accident, according to court papers.

[...]

According to court papers, Maranhao called for an ambulance to respond to his Maynesboro Street home at 5:15 p.m. Friday, "because he accidentally stabbed his wife and son." Court papers later described Tammy Morrill, 44, as Maranhao's girlfriend and Corey Maranhao, 17, as the couple's son.

Police and emergency crews responding to the call found all three had suffered stab wounds, although mother and son were taken into intensive care at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for treatment, according to court papers.

Morrill suffered four stab wounds to her chest and left arm and had a collapsed lung. Corey Maranhao was stabbed seven times, according to court papers.

What? Could've happened to anyone.

The Man Who Would Be President

Stanley Kurtz: Obama and Ayers Pushed Radicalism On Schools

Despite having authored two autobiographies, Barack Obama has never written about his most important executive experience. From 1995 to 1999, he led an education foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), and remained on the board until 2001. The group poured more than $100 million into the hands of community organizers and radical education activists.

The CAC was the brainchild of Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground in the 1960s. Among other feats, Mr. Ayers and his cohorts bombed the Pentagon, and he has never expressed regret for his actions. Barack Obama's first run for the Illinois State Senate was launched at a 1995 gathering at Mr. Ayers's home.

[...]

The Obama campaign has cried foul when Bill Ayers comes up, claiming "guilt by association." Yet the issue here isn't guilt by association; it's guilt by participation. As CAC chairman, Mr. Obama was lending moral and financial support to Mr. Ayers and his radical circle. That is a story even if Mr. Ayers had never planted a single bomb 40 years ago.

As they say, READ THE WHOLE THING.

If the mainstream media would spend one tenth the energy reporting on the truth behind their chosen candidate as they have in digging up and spreading rumors, lies and innuendo about Sarah Palin and her children, Barack Obama wouldn't be able to get a job pushing a pretzel cart in Chicago.

When asked about Ayers, Obama downplayed their acquaintance, and like clockwork, his eager lapdogs in the media ate it up like table scraps from pot roast Sunday.

Ayers is nothing more than an aging lefty with a foolish past who is doing good. And while, yes, Obama is friendly with Ayers, it appears to be only in the way of two community activists whose circles overlap.

Chicago Sun Times - 3/3/08

"But the Obama-Ayers link is a tenuous one."

Washington Post - 2/18/08

Ben says Ayers and Obama were, at best, casual friends. Even that seems to overstate things, though. I don't see evidence of any relationship.

The New Republic - 2/22/08

Note: All those quotes came from Barack Obama's official campaign website.

See how this works?

Obama tells the media what they want to hear. They, in turn, write their stories to follow the pre-approved narrative. And Obama gets to reprint them on the "Fact Check" page of his website.

That's one big circlejerk of HopenchangeTM there.

And, people want this boob to be President of the United States???

I still don't get it.

Might I Recommend a Pocket Holster Next Time?

Idiot.

RUMNEY, N.H. -- A Pelham deer hunter was hospitalized Saturday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in Rumney.

Alrick Hammar, 55, was bow hunting from a tree stand on Rattlesnake Mountain when he stood to stretch around 8:40 a.m., state fish and game officials said.

Sgt. Brian Suttmeier said Hammar had a handgun in his pocket, which snagged on something as the hunter stood. The gun went off, wounding Hammar in the leg.

Anyone who carries a pistol in his pocket with a chambered round, and without a holster that completely covers and protects the trigger guard, is just asking for something like this to happen.

Uncle Mike's makes a decent pocket holster than you can get for about 12 bucks. A damn good investment when you consider the alternative.

Xavier has more on this topic with accompanying "lessons learned" story.

Make No Mistake, There ARE Two Americas

On one hand, there's the United States of America, the most tolerant and freedom-loving country on the face of the planet, a place that tens of millions of us are immeasurably proud to call home.

Then there's Barack Obama's vile, racially-divided, hate-filled America, which claims Charlie Rangel as both a citizen and high-ranking member of the "progressive" political machine.

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Already under fire for his tax troubles, Manhattan Congressman Charles Rangel really put his foot in his mouth on Friday.

In a CBS 2 HD exclusive interview, Rep. Rangel called Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "disabled."

The question was simple: Why are the Democrats so afraid of Palin and her popularity?

The answer was astonishing.

"You got to be kind to the disabled," Rangel said.

In a just world, this loathsome, corrupt piece of garbage would be forcibly hauled out of his office by a pitchfork-wielding mob, brought to justice, and sent to federal prison for 10 to 15 years. Of course, is a just world, no one this ass-reamingly stupid would ever be elected to Congress.

And, you think Rangel's a despicable bucket of cow piss now?

God help us all if his good friend Barack Obama becomes president.

UPDATE: Grouchy Old Cripple offers up the Rhetorical Question of the Day.

Now I know why Nancy Blinky Pelosi cannot drain the swamp. Charlie Rangel and William Cold Cash Jefferson are clogging up the drain. Seriously, do you think that if either of these dudes were white and Republican that they would still be in Congress? The LSM would be demanding their resignations on a daily basis.

Culture of corruption indeed. Worst. Congress. Ever.

No contest.

Man Enough To Admit When I'm Wrong

Back on February 22nd of this year, I wrote:

Yesterday's McCain hatchet job was the official kickoff of McCain Derangement Syndrome. Don't get me wrong. Bush will be blamed for many of the world's ills for decades to come, but the really intense hatred is all coming McCain's way, as he is now the obstacle on the road between the O-Bomb and the Utopian Purple Shroud Society.

Little did I know, at the time, that only four days after I wrote that, I would receive my first clue as to how wrong that statement would be proven to be.

In my defense, I did get the "Derangement Syndrome" part right.

Quote of the Day

From this righteous smackdown:

If bitter is the easiest way for you to rationalize that I truly with all my heart believe that John McCain will be a great president, then call me bitter. But it doesn't really advance the dialogue [...]

Of course, if we've learned one thing about the Obama campaign, it's that "advancing the dialogue" is the last thing they want to do.

(You Tube clip via NewsBusters)

Natural By-Product of Government-Run Healthcare

Dementia sufferers may have a 'duty to die'

Elderly people suffering from dementia should consider ending their lives because they are a burden on the NHS and their families, according to the influential medical ethics expert Baroness Warnock.

This concept wouldn't be too hard to sell to President Obama and his hand-picked cabal of advisors as they draft their "Free Health Care For All" health plan. Just refer to them as "340th trimester abortions", and it's a done deal.

Limbaugh Responds to Obama's Slanderous Smear

Rush Limbaugh takes Barack Obama to task over his latest racist smear ad - something the mainstream media has certainly been unwilling to do, on account of its sworn allegiance to the Chosen One.

Mr. Obama's campaign is now trafficking in prejudice of its own making. And in doing so, it is playing with political dynamite. What kind of potential president would let his campaign knowingly extract two incomplete, out-of-context lines from two radio parodies and build a framework of hate around them in order to exploit racial tensions? The segregationists of the 1950s and 1960s were famous for such vile fear-mongering.

[...]

The malignant aspect of this is that Mr. Obama and his advisers know exactly what they are doing. They had to listen to both monologues or read the transcripts. They then had to pick the particular excerpts they used in order to create a commercial of distortions. Their hoped-for result is to inflame racial tensions. In doing this, Mr. Obama and his advisers have demonstrated a pernicious contempt for American society.

We've made much racial progress in this country. Any candidate who employs the tactics of the old segregationists is unworthy of the presidency.

Read the whole thing.

I challenge anyone to defend this filth being spewed by the Obama campaign. It's bad enough when his surrogates in American politics, in the media, and in the left-wing of the blogosphere carry on like this.

But, here we have Barack "I Approve This Message" Obama, himself, playing the race card in a most vile, slanderous, and incendiary manner, for the sole purpose of fanning the fires of racism in this country for political gain.

And, this is the candidate who's going to heal the country?

This is the man who's going to make the world love us again?

I sincerely beg to differ.

Stating the Mind-Numbingly Obvious

Mary Katharine Ham, writing at the Weekly Standard:

Nothing to see here. Just your average hack of a vice presidential candidate's e-mail account with no political motivation whatsoever. I'm sure if it does end up being a Democrat's son who's the culprit, the media will regain its respect for the privacy of politicians' children but quick.

Yep.

Anyone who would deny that such a double standard exists in the media today has his head so far up his ass he could be wearing his ribcage for a hockey helmet.

And, anyone who believes that the media coverage of this would be no different were it the son of a Republican politician hacking into Joe Biden or Barack Obama's personal e-mail, and posting the contents thereof on the internet, is simply ignorant beyond measure.

UPDATE: Here's another one.

Let’s pause for a moment to consider the gobsmacking outrage that would ring from every corner of the MSM and the left (redundancy alert!) if say, oh I don’t know, noted Christian Sarah Palin argued that her tax proposals were based on her church’s teachings.

Obama to Doe-Eyed Followers: Lie For Me

Stop me if you're heard this one before.

In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.

"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

"And if they tell you that, 'Well, we're not sure where he stands on guns.' I want you to say, 'He believes in the Second Amendment.' If they tell you, 'Well, he's going to raise your taxes,' you say, 'No, he's not, he's going lower them.' You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case."

I'm still waiting to hear about all the hard work he did in Illinois challenging the powers that be, while trying to restore the Second Amendment rights of his fellow Chicagoans. For such a self-professed champion of American's gun rights, you'd think there'd be some evidence that at he at least tried to do something about such an egregious violation of the people's Constitutional rights.

Yeah, right.

Anyone who believes that barack Obama supports the people's right to keep and bear arms, or that anyone with a job will see their tax burden and cost of living go down with Obama in the White House is an utter fool.

And, not the simple, garden variety, Kool-Aid-drinking fools. Those people can actually be reasoned with to some degree. We're talking purple sheets and Nike running shoes.

This Just In!

Barack "Hope and Change" Obama is a lying, race-baiting scumbag.

Shocking, I know.

I mean, who could have possibly foreseen Obama, the Self-Anointed Progressive Prince of Peace, Love and Understanding, playing the race card in such a vile, disgraceful and disingenuous manner as this?

That's so unlike him.

Next thing you'll tell me is that he's good friends with unrepentant domestic terrorists, hate-filled, racist preachers, and convicted felons.

Obama: Let's Make Special Interest Money an Issue

You can bet the farm that Obama's devoted sphincter-smoochers in the lamestream media will do everything in their power to prevent that shortsighted strategy from barackfiring.

Open Secrets has the list of Congressmen who have benefited from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac largesse since 1989 (inclusive). Remarkably, after only serving less than four of those 20 years, Barack Obama has vaulted to the #2 position on Capitol Hill. Only Dodd outstripped him. He took more than six times the amount that McCain received in a 20-year period.

Also from that linked post:

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

Who said it, and when?

John McCain, May 2006.

Bush and McCain have been on the right side of this issue for years, while Biden, Obama, and their fellow Democrats in Congress opted, instead, to rake in the special interest contributions from these financial institutions, and bury their heads in the soft, warm sand of the Barney Frank Desert of Denial.

Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before

Someone hasn't been doing a very good job at keeping the Obama campaign's smear generator gassed up. It's running on fumes again and still spitting out this disgusting garbage.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius accused Republicans on Tuesday of injecting race into the presidential campaign, arguing that they are using "code language" to convince Midwesterners that Democrat Barack Obama is different from them.

"Have any of you noticed that Barack Obama is part African-American?" Sebelius asked with sarcasm. "(Republicans) are not going to go lightly into the darkness."

OBAMA '08: Childish race-baiting you can believe in.

Ed Morrissey:

There is nothing more dishonorable in politics than calling opponents “racists” without evidence. It not only smears people who have tried to keep race out of the election, it is a McCarthyite tactic to silence critics. It reveals in another fashion Obama’s Nixonian tendencies in reacting to any sort of criticism at all — shouting it down, smearing journalists doing their jobs, and branding any dissent from the One’s revealed wisdom as based on hate rather than genuine opposition to statist policies.

Kathleen Sebelius has decided to enable that kind of McCarthyism and mudslinging, without having the courage to provide an iota of evidence for it. Perhaps Obama should have chosen her for a running mate; they appear to have the same perspective and philosophy, as well as sharing an ethical standard so low as to be invisible to the naked eye.

Armed NH Citizens Clean Up Democrats' Litter

Heh.

I've Got Some Good News and Some Bad News

Bad news: A new poll has Obama up by three points.

Good news: It's New Jersey.

Dishonesty or Severe Lack of Intelligence?

Barack Obama - September 2008:

But the problem of not regulating the financial markets effectively generally, not seeing that the subprime mortgage crisis was leading to a mess, not updating some of our financial regulations since the 1930s, that’s been, I think, an example of the neglect on the part of the Bush administration over the last eight years whose view is basically anything goes and the government just has to stay out of the way. That has ironically hurt the market and one of the things we have got to rediscover is a little bit of well-applied regulation and transparency and accountability actually helps the market, helps the economy grow.

The New York Times - September 2003:

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

[...]

Significant details must still be worked out before Congress can approve a bill. Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee.

So, either Barack Obama has absolutely no clue in the world as to what he's talking about (like his fellow socialist flunky Barney Frank), or he's simply lying through his teeth to advance his political aspirations, knowing full well that no one in the mainstream media will ever call him to the carpet on his fallacious statements.

You make the call.

From the Rhetorical Question Hall of Fame

From inside the MSM huddle:

OK, folks, we've got a couple options here for tonight's lead story. On one hand, we have a report that a candidate for president tried to delay the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq without authorization to do so for political gain. On the other, we have a candidate for vice president who used her own money to buy a used tanning bed for her house.

What do you think?

Lost: One (1) Set of Hinge Pins

If found, please contact the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Ownership.

Among other things, it would allow people to carry loaded assault weapons on city streets. Teenagers and children would be allowed to carry assault and sniper rifles, as the bill repeals all age restrictions on the possession of long guns.

(via Say Uncle)

Duh!

From the Department of No Shit:

Records show McCain more bipartisan

Sen. John McCain's record of working with Democrats easily outstrips Sen. Barack Obama's efforts with Republicans, according to an analysis by The Washington Times of their legislative records.

Whether looking at bills they have led on or bills they have signed onto, Mr. McCain has reached across the aisle far more frequently and with more members than Mr. Obama since the latter came to the Senate in 2005.

But, if you want a candidate who's going to reach out across party lines and bring the anarchists, Socialists, and Greens together under one big umbrella of happy-happy-joy-joy, then by golly, Obama's your man.

If You Repeat the Lie Often Enough...

Case in point, Roger Ebert on Sarah Palin:

Gun control. She opposes it. Gibson observed that a majority of Americans support a ban on semiautomatic assault weapons. She praised the tradition of gun ownership in Alaska, mentioning protection, hunting, and sport. With machine guns?

Two thumbs up (his ass)!

UK* Legalizes Wife-Beating

I guess this is only natural - I know, I'm not in the least bit shocked by it - coming from a country full of people who don't see anything wrong with the wanton destruction of the private property of others, as long as its done in the name of radical Marxist ideology.

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.

[...]

There are concerns that women who agree to go to tribunal courts are getting worse deals because Islamic law favours men.

Gee, you think?

Siddiqi said that in a recent inheritance dispute handled by the court in Nuneaton, the estate of a Midlands man was divided between three daughters and two sons.

The judges on the panel gave the sons twice as much as the daughters, in accordance with sharia. Had the family gone to a normal British court, the daughters would have got equal amounts.

In the six cases of domestic violence, Siddiqi said the judges ordered the husbands to take anger management classes and mentoring from community elders. There was no further punishment.

How very progressive of them.

Ensuing outrage from the so-called feminist movement in this country, assuming they can take a break from assailing Sarah Palin for daring to have opinions and principles that stray from pre-approved, leftist groupthink, in five...four...three...two...

...one.

NH Dems Give Gun-Banning State Rep the Boot

Hey, Eleanor, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Low voter turnout contributed to some tight races for local seats in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

Those knocked out of the running last night include a Republican martial arts expert from Candia, a woman who participated in the reality TV show Wife Swap, a student at the University of New Hampshire and, as of press time, one incumbent: Democratic Rep. Eleanor Kjellman, of Henniker.

Anyone who's been reading this blog for a while will immediately recognize that name.

So, with this bit of happy news, Eleanor Kjellman becomes the latest elected official to find out what happens to state legislators in New Hampshire who attempt to deprive the good people of New Hampshire of their right to protect themselves via the lawful carriage of arms.

H/T to Dave Ridley at the Ridley Report for bringing this to my attention.

I'd say this calls for a cold one, or four.

Cheers!

Speechless

Just when you thought the once-great British Empire couldn't slide any further down the path of sheer lunacy and unchecked socialism...

Cleared: Jury decides that threat of global warming justifies breaking the law

The threat of global warming is so great that campaigners were justified in causing more than £35,000 worth of damage to a coal-fired power station, a jury decided yesterday. In a verdict that will have shocked ministers and energy companies the jury at Maidstone Crown Court cleared six Greenpeace activists of criminal damage.

Jurors accepted defence arguments that the six had a "lawful excuse" to damage property at Kingsnorth power station in Kent to prevent even greater damage caused by climate change. The defence of "lawful excuse" under the Criminal Damage Act 1971 allows damage to be caused to property to prevent even greater damage – such as breaking down the door of a burning house to tackle a fire.

Great precedent there, people. Nice knowing you.

That was a piss-poor choice of words, on Golden Boy's part.

And, we're not talking "freshly-filled specimen cup" piss. This bucket's been sittin' next to the shed, soaking up the sun and attracting flies for a couple weeks or more.

I'm almost willing to chalk it up to abject stupidity and lack of anything resembling sound judgment.

Obligatory Libspeak Scorecard Update:

Using the "lipstick on a pig" line just five days after Sarah Palin's now-famous "pitbull/lipstick" remark was seen and heard by millions on live TV, and then claiming you meant no harm? Sure, why not?

Calling out Obama on his self-touted record as a community organizer? What are you, a Klansman?

Reason #17,928...

...for moving out of that despotic shithole.

Boston city councilors are mulling a scheme to keep their business secret from the taxpayers who elected them, creating a cone of silence that would make the Hub the only city in the commonwealth exempt from the state’s Open Meeting Law.

An 80-page report the council takes up today recommends asking the Legislature for an exemption from the law that requires all cities and towns to conduct their business in public. An exemption would mean citizens have no legally guaranteed right to attend council meetings, or even receive meeting minutes.

"...government of the people, by the people, for the people..."

Uh-huh.

Of course, should the exemption they're seeking come to pass, the "good" progressives in the city will play along, nod their heads in unison, and say it's for their own good.

And, life will go on as usual inside the bubble.

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Say...

...community organizer.

ALBANY (CBS) ― On Monday, Gov. David Paterson angered some state lawmakers by comparing them to vampires, calling them a bunch of "blood suckers." On Tuesday, he raised eyebrows again, and tempers, by accusing the John McCain campaign of veiled racism.

[...]

Paterson sees the repeated use of the words "community organizer" as Republican code for "black".

Just so we're all on the same page here, from know on, when I call someone a Paterson, it's really a Republican code for "race-baiting jackass".

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go update my list.

Hey, Pimpin' Ain't Easy

But, it looks like CNN is up to the challenge.

There's also this article from the so-called "most trusted name in news" about McCain's recent gains in the national polls.

(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain has inched ahead of Sen. Barack Obama in national polls, but the Democratic candidate holds a steady lead in the most recent Electoral College estimates.

But, does he?

Read on.

In national surveys, McCain leads by two points -- 47 to 45 percent, according to CNN's poll of polls released Monday night.

In the Electoral College standings, the most recent survey shows 243 electoral votes either safely in Obama's column or leaning his way. At this point, McCain can claim only 189.

Many of the state polls used to determine the Electoral College standings, however, were conducted before the conventions.

Allow me to translate.

(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain has inched ahead of Sen. Barack Obama in national polls, but we here at CNN would sooner stick rusty nails in our eyes than allow this paragraph to end without inserting something to reflect positively on our chosen candidate, regardless of how misleading that something might be.

Quote of the Day

Ed Morrissey:

Of course, this also shows how hypocritical Obama’s entire sanctimony about “politics as usual” was in the first place. People with principles stick to them even when it makes life tough. Hypocrites mouth platitudes but dump the pretty speeches for political expediency at the first sign of trouble.

The Candidate of Change

Barack Obama (9/7/08):

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush's tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.

Barack Obama (9/8/08):

You remember that? For it before you were against it? I mean you can't just make stuff up. You can't just recreate yourself. You can't just reinvent yourself. The American people aren't stupid.

No, fortunately, we're not.

Earlier examples of Obama "not (not) reinventing himself" here.

A Well Regulated Militia...

...being necessary to the security of a free State...

Come on, all you liberal hand-wringers and bet-wetters. Explain to me again how those 13 words are supposed to negate, at least in your isolated fairyland world, the individual right of American citizens to keep and bear arms.

I'll be here all day.

Boston Globe's Vennochi Spinning Blindly

This one is right up there with MSNBC's perceived shift to the left.

Questions about Palin's qualifications and ability to juggle children and career dominated convention headlines, along with the soap opera revolving around the candidate's 17-year-old pregnant, unmarried daughter.

Taking a page from the Clinton campaign handbook, the first-term governor of Alaska and former mayor of Wasilla skillfully turned the criticism into a sexist attack by Washington elites.

Nice try.

Next!

It worked in the convention hall. But once the novelty of Palin's candidacy begins to rub off, she still must answer for her weak resume and right-wing ideology.

Wow.

In denial much?

Have you looked at the inexperienced, empty-suited, left-wing boob sitting on top of your party's ticket, recently, Joan?

Just so you know what Vennochi's talking about, here's Gretchen Wilson's Redneck Woman that she felt obligated to take a swipe at in this sad, little Palin hit piece of hers.

And, she has a problem with that because...???

Note to all the all the Joan Vennochi's of the liberal media: There's a reason why Gretchen Wilson was asked to perform at the GOP convention last week. Her music exudes mainstream American values, whether you choose to recognize that fact or not.

And, people are responding to that message.

Step outside the bubbles you're living in and come visit us in America some day. It's quite beautiful here.

DOUBLE BONUS!

Here's Gretchen Wilson teaming up with Alice in Chains doing Heart's "Barracuda" at last year's Rock Honors tribute to Heart on VH1.

Draining the Tank

New York Times:

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

Translation: It failed to bring about the desired results.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

"Perceived" shift to the left?

Uh-huh.

Whatever.

I Wasn't Among Them

Thrill-Seekers Head To NH Coast Despite Warnings

HAMPTON BEACH, N.H. -- Thrill-seekers are testing the waves on the New Hampshire coast as the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna moves through New England.

However, the U.S. Coast Guard is worried that their thrills could turn into tragedy if people aren’t careful and wary of the wicked weather.

Surfers report seeing 5-foot high waves Saturday and they said that 6-to-8-foot high waves could move in soon.

Here's a little-known secret about your humble host.

I suck at surfing.

Seeing how I spent my entire life living New England, not exactly a region of the country known for it's killer waves, it should come as no surprise that I don't count surfing among my strong suits.

So, I should have known better than to venture out in the waves off the coast of Maui while vacationing there with my wife's family back in December of 2001.

"But, honey, all those little kids out there are doing it. How tough can it be? I'm gonna go grab a boogie board and give it a try."

Suffice to say I'm lucky those didn't become my famous last words of the "Dude, hold my beer!" variety.

Sure the first couple waves were fun, but when I paddled out a little further and found myself looking down from the crest of a wave onto the other surfers below, I kinda thought I might be in over my head. Literally.

I paddled toward the shore a bit and tried to catch the next wave to ride it in. Well, the next wave came in, and I caught all of it. And, by "caught all of it", I mean "got myself flipped upside-down, pile-driven into the hard sand below, and tumbled around underwater, in agonizing pain while trying to hold my breath".

Fortunately, by the time I was able figure out which way was up, I was in waist deep water and was able to stand up and limp my way toward shore.

Sure, I couldn't move my left arm, and my shoulder hurt like hell squared, but by the grace of God, it wasn't my neck that had absorbed most of the impact and I don't need a blender and a straw to eat steak today.

The resort sent a security guy down to the beach on a golf cart to haul my sorry ass up to the parking lot and my father-in-law drove me to the local emergency clinic.

Diagnosis: separated shoulder

After the x-rays, they gave me a shot of what had to be some of the most wonderful painkillers known to mankind, and I immediately went into "What pain?" mode, skippin' down the cobblestones and feeling groovy for the next couple hours or so.

They discharged me after strapping my arm in a sling and giving me a handful of "free sample" pain medication (though drastically weaker than what I was mainlining earlier), and told me to just take Advil after those ran out. Needless to say, I was feeling much less groovy by the next morning.

The upside of all this was that it happened the day before we'd be flying home, and not at the beginning of our vacation. At the airport in Maui, they were looking for folks to take a later flight out, due to the over-booked flight. We volunteered to do so, but also tried to milk my injury for all it was worth, which proved to be a good call on our part. We ended up trading our seats in coach for two up in first class.

But, back to the subject at hand.

You couldn't pay enough to go out in those waves this weekend.

I suck at surfing.

Understatement of the 2008 Campaign Season

I guess it all depends on one's definition of think.

Still, Obama said he wouldn’t want to go head-to-head with Palin in another sport: target shooting.

"I know she’s a sharpshooter, and I know that -- I probably wouldn’t do target practice with her," he said. "I think she’d be a better shot than me."

UPDATE: Let's turn around the story linked there.

Suppose Sarah Palin had said:

"Target shooting out on the rifle range, I think I’d stand up pretty well," she said.

Still, Palin said she wouldn’t want to go head-to-head with Obama in another sport: basketball.

"I know he plays hoops on a fairly regular basis, and I know that -- I probably wouldn’t go one-on-one with him," she said. "I think he’d be a better basketball player than me."

How long would it take (please round up your answers to the nearest nanosecond) for some Obamabot in the MSM to start screaming about what a vile, racist remark that was?

Breakfast Dilemma Solved

I was trying to decide between bacon and sausage this morning, when I came across this article that helped me make up my mind.

It's gonna be both.

People should consider eating less meat as a way of combating global warming, says the UN's top climate scientist.

"The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has estimated that direct emissions from meat production account for about 18% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions," he told BBC News.

[...]

The FAO figure of 18% includes greenhouse gases released in every part of the meat production cycle - clearing forested land, making and transporting fertiliser, burning fossil fuels in farm vehicles, and the front and rear end emissions of cattle and sheep.

Three words: Pass the A-1.

Following this rationale, any commercial/industrial activity that involves fossil fuel-burning vehicles to perform job-related tasks or to transport material goods should be curtailed to help combat climate hopenchange.

Of course, implementing such a vision to the extent desired by these impassioned "environmentalists" would put millions out of work, and irreparably cripple the economies of every industrial nation on earth.

But, then again, seeing how such "economic justice" is one of the two main goals of the Cult of Global Climate Warming Change (the other, enriching the leaders of said cult via the peddling of carbon-ponzi credits), is anyone surprised by this?

As far as the ridiculous cow fart alarmism is concerned, I'll just leave it at this (my favorite paragraph ever to be inscribed in the Congressional Record).

I would like to point out that before the introduction of cattle, millions upon millions of buffalo dominated the Great Plains of America. They were so thick you could not see where the herd started and where it ended. I can only assume that the anti-meat, manmade global warming crowd must believe that buffalo farts have more socially redeeming value than the same flatulence emitted by cattle. Yes, this is absurd, but the deeper one looks into this global warming juggernaut, the weirder this movement becomes and the more denial is evident.

You know who doesn't?

This worn-out, one-trick, has-been.

For those of you keeping score at home, this doesn't count as far as my prediction from last Friday is concerned. Accurately predicting that The Golden Goose Egg will play the "funny name" race card in a week's time is like accurately predicting what you had for lunch yesterday.

F*** YEAH!

They actually played Heart's "Barracuda" during the balloon drop.

I'm McLovin' this!

UPDATE: Ann and Nancy Wilson? Not so much.

Right On Cue

McCain hadn't been on stage one minute before some childish, left-wing crybaby tried to disrupt the proceedings on the floor below.

Keep it up, bitches.

UPDATE: There go two more.

End of discussion over which side has more class and integrity.

UPDATE II: OK, so twice in two nights, big-money supporters of barack Obama have disrupted the proceedings on the floor of the GOP convention, during the speeches of John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I'm sure the objective, fair and balanced folks at _______ (insert MSM news outlet of your choosing here) will be all over this story tomorrow morning.

Someone Needs to Leak This to the Kosmonuts

Cindy McCain just referred to Governor Palin as a "pistol-packing mother of five".

I would love to see some "gotcha" piece from one of the Obama Network News anchors explaining how either Cindy McCain lied or Sarah Palin is violating the law, stating there's no record of Governor Palin currently having a valid concealed carry permit in Alaska.

Yes. Yes, He Does.

Rob at Say Anything asks: Does Obama think we’re stupid?

Asshat Broadcasting Corporation

Now, this is truly shocking.

Compare and Contrast

And, this is truly shocking (not). It's 1:45 in the afternoon, and there's barely a peep on the MSM news sites about Barack Obama's sugarmommies trying to disrupt Governor Palin during her speech last night.

Washington Post, Fox News, NRO, IndyStar.com, and a handful of small newspapers all seem to have found the story. If this had been a couple guys from some Young Republicans group rushing the stage at Invesco Field last week, then...well...use your imaginations.

That said, where can I go to donate money to Code Pink to ensure they maintain as visible a presence as possible throughout the remainder of this campaign? At the very least, I'd like to send them a thank you card for last night's brilliant display of immature asshattitude.

UPDATE: Just in case the Zero tries to throw his $ymbioti¢ relationship with these nutcases down the old memory hole.

Fail...It's What's For Dinner

Updated to post NSFW language version here.

BREAKING: Gunman in McCain NH Field Office

DEVELOPING: A man armed with a semiautomatic handgun walked calmly into the McCain campaign field office in Stratham, New Hampshire at around 3:05 PM this afternoon.

...then he had a nice chat with one of the campaign volunteers there, picked up some yard signs and bumper stickers, and drove to the grocery store to grab a few things for dinner.

Math for Bigoted MSM Dummies

1,194,788 > 3,900,000

And, from that post at Ace of Spades HQ, comes the Blog Comment of the Week (emphasis mine):

The 2007 Covenant House Alaska government grant revenue was $1,335,073 and is the better base for comparison. See here.

Note that this is the total for all government grants, but there's a high likelihood that the governmental agency in question is the State of Alaska.

Note also that Covenant House is a faith-based organization. If not for Bristol, the MSM meme would be "Evangelical Governor Tripled State Grant For Religious Organization."

Pretty much.

Another Great Moment in the History of "Change"

Alternate Post Title: The Audacity of Hypocrisy

Tom Daschle on Sarah Palin (2008):

The next president of the United States is going to have to have the ability to focus the experience and all of the resources it's going to take to be a strong person in foreign policy and make the decisions necessary to get us through this very, very difficult challenges we face.

So who does he pick? Somebody who has absolutely no experience in that regard.

Tom Daschle on John Edwards (2000):

I think it's the life experiences you bring to the job.

Once again proving, if the Left didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all.

(link via ninjapirate commenting at Hot Air)

Confirmation

When the New York Times starts running op-ed pieces calling on Governor Palin to withdraw from the race (no, I won't link to that mungrag), you just know she was the right pick for McCain to make.

If I wanted a candidate who would make the folks at New York Times get all wet in the Dockers, I'd go back to being a Democrat.

No thanks.

Better Late Than Never, I Suppose...

...but where was that Fred Thompson a year ago?

Memo to Lame-Assed Lefty Photoshoppers

If you're going to cook up a pic purporting to show Governor Sarah Palin in a bikini, holding a rifle, please have the decency to make it something chambered in .300 Win Mag or maybe a .30-06, and not a Crosman BB gun.

That's just insulting, man.

(link via Hot Air)

Palin vs. Obama

Pretty much sums it up.

UPDATE: I might as well tack on this "Quote of the Day" from Uncle:

Beyond that, what scares the left is that Palin is guns, God and babies. Bitter and clingy Americans love that.

Yes, we do.

Gotta Be Something in the Water

My good friend, David Bernstein, from the Boston Phoenix is personally outraged over John McCain's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate on the GOP ticket.

This selection, so obviously political, so obviously insulting and condescending to women (I can make the right-wingers happy, and win swing votes because broads will vote for a dame!), is ultimately a flat-out statement that John McCain doesn't give a rat's ass about this country.

And, if McCain had picked another old white guy, like Obama did, the pages of the Phoenix would have been filled with phrases like "McSame's rich, white guy club" and "after an exhaustive search of the nation's Caucasian country clubs".

Let me put this simply: John McCain has put his political ambition above the good of the country.

Let me put this simply: To criticize a candidate for picking a running mate that he thinks will help him win votes in the election is retarded. What does Bernstein think Obama had in mind when picking Biden to share the ticket with him?

Obama talks about change, about taking the country in a new direction, about doing away with business as usual in Washington, DC. Then what does he do? He chooses for a running mate one the most entrenched Washington insiders today's "lowest approval ratings ever" Congress has to offer.

If Obama sincerely believes that "change" is really what this country needs to "heal itself", then his VP pick is a shining example of "putting political ambition above the good of the country".

Bernstein, of course, sees nothing wrong with the Democrat nominee's VP selection, experience or qualifications for the job he is seeking, and begins his defense of Barack Obama's "qualifications" thusly:

Barack Obama is a Harvard Law graduate...

As if you need to be a lawyer to be president. I went back and checked to see if Article II of the Constitution had been amended while I wasn't paying attention. Nope, still no mention of any educational requirements whatsoever.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, Dave, but a lot of folks see Palin's non-lawyer status as a BIG plus. I know I do.

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Bernstein felt quite differently about just how much a degree from Harvard Law School reflected on a person's abilities when discussing the Supreme Court appointments of Obama's fellow Crimsons, John Roberts and Antonin Scalia.

...who spent years in successful non-profit service...

"Successful non-profit service"? Quick! Get this man's hands on the nuclear football!

...spent seven years representing much of the nation's third-largest city in the upper legislative house of one of the state's most populous states...

Translated: Successfully weaseled himself into the inner workings of the corrupt Chicago political machine. Seriously, anyone who believes that "succeeding" in Chicago politics is a righteous achievement needs to have his head examined.

As does anyone who thinks that having an extensive record of voting "present" to avoid taking a stand on controversial issues is a sign of courage that one should look for in electing a leader.

...and has then represented that state as US Senator.

For what? A week and half before starting to campaign full-time for president?

Comparisons to Dan Quayle are also way off: Quayle had a long and impressive political resume when Bush the Elder picked him.

I agree. Sarah Palin is no Dan Quayle. But, like many, I also see that as a good thing.

Palin? Up until a couple of years ago, her resume featured a BA in journalism, some commercial fishing, a little TV sportscasting, and a little local political success in a town roughly the size of Boxborough.

As I stated earlier, and repeated in my comment to Bernstein's post:

Whether you approve or not, Sarah Palin represents Middle America, and embodies what Abraham Lincoln had in mind when he spoke about a "government of the people".

Also, notice, how Bernstein conveniently "glosses over" Palin's more recent accomplishments as Governor of Alaska, by focusing on the "little political success" she had in some insignificant dust-speck of a town.

Just like his Golden Boy Obama did last night when being interviewed on CNN.

Then, Bernstein exudes more of that "outrage" he's feeling.

It is an outrage that John McCain would place this person next in line to be President.

Needless to say, he's tickled pink that the Democrats' are looking to launch Barack Obama, the least experienced presidential candidate in modern American history, into the #1 slot, and to keep Nancy Pelosi "two heartbeats" away from the Oval Office in the #3 slot.

And, of course, no irrational, lefty, GOP-hating column would be complete without baseless name-calling and imagination-based predictions of racist or sexist attacks coming from the mouths of evil Republicans. Again, just like Obama.

Fortunately, my guess is that if the Democrats just keep their mouths shut, lifelong misogynist John McCain will end up demeaning her himself -- perhaps he can suggest that she enter the Miss Buffalo Chip pageant?

Ooh...such biting humor. Palin's a former beauty pageant contestant. I get it. That's really witty.

Not.

If I didn't know David Bernstein, and this piece was all I had to go by, I'd swear he wasn't a day over 19 years old and had typed this up from his dorm room.

Respecting a Woman's Right to Choose

Something tells me there won't be much of that respect coming from the Left over this new development.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has announced that her 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant. The announcement is “intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child,” says the Reuters news service, which carried the first report.

In a statement, the Palin family says that Bristol Palin is “about five months pregnant” and that she intends to marry the father. “We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," the Palins said in the statement. "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.”

The Palin family asked the media to “respect our daughter” and her privacy. According to the Reuters report, John McCain’s campaign was aware of the pregnancy when the Arizona senator selected Palin to be his running mate last week.

Because everyone knows the so-called "right to choose" only applies when the choice being made is to abort the pregnancy.

Concealed pistol permits up 43 percent in Wash

SEABECK, Wash. -- In Julian Piercy's mind, the small bulge in his shirt near his lower back is a way of "leveling a situation."

The clip that he fastens to his waist band before leaving the house isn't just another accessory. It gives him an option, he said, when all others are off the table and a life is on the line.

When he feels the pressure of metal on his back, it gives him confidence that he has a chance of protecting those he cares about most.

"As a parent, I am the first line of defense for my children," he said. "Not the police."

[...]

"The gun doesn't make me invincible, smarter, or tougher than anyone else," he said. "It's merely there as a tool."

No need to worry about the gun making him smarter. This guy's already got more brains than most.

And, stop me if you've heard this one before.

But do concealed pistol holders actually make society safer, a kind of armed public service?

Mark Duncan, deputy police chief on Bainbridge Island, said that's a difficult question to answer. An easier question for him is whether they make society more dangerous. His answer is no.

"The cases of someone misusing their concealed pistol license are virtually unheard of," he said.

No shit.

Passing the Baton

So, how long will it be before some MSM talking head kicks off this week's news cycle by bringing up this mind-numbingly idiotic "conspiracy", pretending to report objectively on it, while actually lending credence to the flaming nutcakes that started it?

You know, instead of opening the story with "Some liberal bloggers have been circulating a very disturbing, and obviously false rumor that...", they'll go with, "Some well-known political pundits are claiming to have proof that..."

And, which network will be the first to bite?

OK, let me rephrase that question.

Has Olbermann run with this story already?
